Ode to a woman

Who's seen Jezebel?
She was born to be the woman I would know
And hold like a breeze half as tight as both eyes closed

Who's seen Jezebel?
She went walking where the cedars line the road
Her blouse on the ground where the dogs were hungry, roaming

Sayin' "Wait, we swear we'll love you more
And wholly, Jezebel, it's we, we that you are for only"

Who's seen Jezebel?
She was born to be the woman we could blame
Make me a beast half as brave and be the same

Who's seen Jezebel?
She was gone before I ever got to say
"Lay here, my love, you're the only shape I'll pray to Jezebel"

Who's seen Jezebel?
Will the mountain last as long as I can wait
Wait like the dawn, how it aches to meet the day

Who's seen Jezebel?
She was certainly the spark for all I've done
The window was wide, she could see the dogs come runnin'

Sayin' "Wait, we swear we'll love you more
And wholly, Jezebel, it's we, we that you are for only"

Have you seen him live yet? Great artist. If you don't have the album, 'Our Endless Numbered Days' I totally recommend it.

I love virtually everything on 'Our Endless Numbered Days' and 'In the Reins' with Calexico. But Jezebel is my absolute favorite. I wish I could see him live!

Jezebel was an evil woman...

Well, this not an ode to Jezebel particularly, but to the misunderstood women. Besides, don't you find glorifying fallen angels mysteriously charming. May be it's that drop of Russian blood in me, but I always found it terribly irritating that Western cultures cannot see the beauty in it.

If you can steal away for the weekend, drop down in the U.K. and catch a show. Manchester, Bristol and London this weekend. Not far from you at all. http://www.ironandwine.com/tour/?id=34

I saw him live in Chapel Hill. It was really my first exposure, other than Garden State. I bought the Woman King EP and Jezebel was my favorite song for a while as well.

Hope you can make the shows, if you're not traveling.

I made it! I had to sacrifice Russian Easter, spend endless hours on the trains and busses, and take a huge risk (the concert had been sold out for months) but I made it to London, gate-crashed the Forum, and saw him live! I'm still mesmerized...

Wow! You made it! I'm glad to hear you finally got to see him live. What an experience. I'm sure it was worth the travel hassles.

All the best. Denver
